Poker Hand Rankings — Strongest to Weakest

A quick reference guide for new players and a handy refresher for veterans at 9kiss.

# Hand Name Description Strength
1 Royal Flush A, K, Q, J, 10 — all the same suit. The strongest hand, nearly impossible to hit.
2 Straight Flush Five consecutive cards of the same suit. Extremely rare.
3 Four of a Kind Four cards of the same value. Example: four Kings.
4 Full House Three of a kind plus a pair. Example: Three Aces and two Kings.
5 Flush Five cards of the same suit, not necessarily in sequence.
6 Straight Five consecutive cards of mixed suits.
7 Three of a Kind Three cards of the same value.
8 Two Pair Two separate pairs of different values.
9 One Pair A pair of cards with the same value.
10 High Card No combination — the highest card in your hand plays.

Poker Strategy for 9kiss Players

Select your skill level to read strategies suited to you.

Beginner Mid-Stage Advanced

If you are just getting started with poker at 9kiss, the most important thing is not to rush. Many new players make the mistake of playing too many hands — every hand looks appealing when you do not yet understand hand values. The reality is that in solid Texas Hold'em, you should be folding more than half the time.

Choose Good Starting Hands

The best starting hands for beginners are high pairs (Ace-Ace, King-King, Queen-Queen), an Ace paired with another strong card (Ace-King, Ace-Queen), and mid pairs (Jack-Jack, 10-10). Avoid playing two unconnected, low-value cards — they lose more often than they win.

Understand Your Position at the Table

Table position is one of the most important elements often overlooked by new players at 9kiss. Playing from a late position (button or cut-off) gives you a significant edge, as you get to see every other player's action before making your decision. When you're in an early position, play tighter and stick to genuinely strong hands.

Essential Tips for Beginners

Start at the Low Stakes tables (RM10–RM50 buy-in) at 9kiss. You will get plenty of real-game experience without risking too much while you are still learning.

At the intermediate level, you already understand the basics and are playing more consistently. Now it's time to bring in the elements that separate average players from those who are truly profitable at 9kiss.

Read Your Opponents and Spot Patterns

Start paying attention to how your opponents bet. Do they always bet big when strong and check when weak? Do they bluff too often, or never at all? At 9kiss, each player's game history can offer valuable clues. Players who consistently limp (enter with the minimum call) tend to be holding weak hands and lacking confidence.

Use Pot Odds

Pot odds are the ratio between the current pot size and the cost of your call. If the pot holds RM100 and your opponent bets RM20, you are paying RM20 to win RM120 — odds of 6:1. Compare that against the probability of your hand becoming the best hand. If your chances are better than the pot odds, calling is the mathematically correct decision.

Don't Over-Bluff

Bluffing works when used correctly, but many mid-level players bluff far too often. Strong opponents at 9kiss will pick up on this and start calling you down every time. Bluff less, and make sure each bluff tells a believable story.

Skilled players at 9kiss have moved beyond simply playing their cards — they play the people across the table, not just the hand in front of them. This is where GTO (Game Theory Optimal) strategy starts to matter.

GTO vs Exploitative Strategy

GTO is a mathematical approach that makes your strategy unexploitable — even if your opponent knows exactly what you're doing. Exploitative play, on the other hand, means adjusting your strategy to take direct advantage of a specific opponent's weaknesses. At 9kiss, the best players can switch fluidly between both approaches depending on the table situation.

Range Thinking and Hand Ranges

Skilled players don't think about one specific hand their opponent might hold — they think about the full range of hands an opponent could have based on every action taken so far. This takes consistent practice, but it's the most valuable skill in modern poker at 9kiss.

Review Your Session

Skilled poker players at 9kiss regularly review their own game history. Identify the decisions that were wrong, not just the ones that led to losses — sometimes the right decision still results in a short-term loss, and that is completely normal.

Poker Glossary

Get familiar with the terminology used at 9kiss poker tables before you sit down to play.

Blinds
Mandatory bets placed by the two players to the left of the dealer before any cards are dealt. The small blind and big blind ensure there is always money in the pot to play for.
Flop
The first three community cards dealt face-up on the table after the initial betting round. The flop often determines the strength of your hand.
Turn & River
The fourth (Turn) and fifth (River) community cards are revealed one at a time. The River is the final card — outcomes often hinge on this one.
All-In
Pushing all your chips into the pot in a single bet. An all-in player remains eligible to win the portion of the pot equal to their stack.
Bluff
Betting or raising with a weak hand to confuse opponents into folding. An effective bluff requires a consistent story and an accurate read on your opponents.
Check-Raise
A strategy where you check first rather than bet, then raise once your opponent bets. It is used to maximise value or as a semi-bluff.
Rakeback
The percentage of rake (commission) returned to active 9kiss players as a loyalty reward. VIP players receive a higher rakeback rate.
