If you are just getting started with poker at 9kiss, the most important thing is not to rush. Many new players make the mistake of playing too many hands — every hand looks appealing when you do not yet understand hand values. The reality is that in solid Texas Hold'em, you should be folding more than half the time.
The best starting hands for beginners are high pairs (Ace-Ace, King-King, Queen-Queen), an Ace paired with another strong card (Ace-King, Ace-Queen), and mid pairs (Jack-Jack, 10-10). Avoid playing two unconnected, low-value cards — they lose more often than they win.
Table position is one of the most important elements often overlooked by new players at 9kiss. Playing from a late position (button or cut-off) gives you a significant edge, as you get to see every other player's action before making your decision. When you're in an early position, play tighter and stick to genuinely strong hands.

Pot odds are the ratio between the current pot size and the cost of your call. If the pot holds RM100 and your opponent bets RM20, you are paying RM20 to win RM120 — odds of 6:1. Compare that against the probability of your hand becoming the best hand. If your chances are better than the pot odds, calling is the mathematically correct decision.
Bluffing works when used correctly, but many mid-level players bluff far too often. Strong opponents at 9kiss will pick up on this and start calling you down every time. Bluff less, and make sure each bluff tells a believable story.
Skilled players at 9kiss have moved beyond simply playing their cards — they play the people across the table, not just the hand in front of them. This is where GTO (Game Theory Optimal) strategy starts to matter.
GTO is a mathematical approach that makes your strategy unexploitable — even if your opponent knows exactly what you're doing. Exploitative play, on the other hand, means adjusting your strategy to take direct advantage of a specific opponent's weaknesses. Skilled players don't think about one specific hand their opponent might hold — they think about the full range of hands an opponent could have based on every action taken so far. This takes consistent practice, but it's the most valuable skill in modern poker at 9kiss.
